This is an amazing opportunity for an LPSQ Superintendent to join our Loss Prevention Safety and Quality (LPSQ) department. By entering this team, you'll help ensure that BSM operates ethically and according to international regulations and industry standards. The LPSQ team enforces internal procedures and policies, evaluates data logs, investigates accidents, and ensures the company is up to date with certifications. It is a challenging and inquisitive environment where practical steps are taken to protect the environment and maintain health and safety at work.

Job Objective:

Support the Company’s operation by the highest quality standards in international ship-management, while implements LPSQ and environmental processes across assigned vessels and proceeds to corrective measures in cases of deviations to enhance operational excellence. Perform visits to vessels to identify their compliance with LPSQ processes, procedures, and standards.

What will your responsibilities be?

Support SMC’s Strategy:

  • Supports the identification of changes in the relevant to LPSQ legislation and contributes in the development and update of the local LPSQ rules, standards and procedures, so as to enhance the compliance of the SMC’s operations with the most recent LPSQ practices and improvements.
  • Monitors the competition concerning the methods and regulations of the LPSQ operations, in order to retrieve the required information for the suggestion of improvements that will enhance the operational effectiveness and increase the competitiveness and corporate image of the Company.

LPSQ Operation Management:

  • Monitor the accurate implementation of the Company’s environmental policies on the assigned vessels.
  • Monitor the operational performance of assigned vessels and advises the Masters, on how to improve the safety onboard and apply environmentally friendly activities.
  • Follows-up the activities concerning LPSQ issues of assigned personnel and other employees, monitors the operational performance of assigned vessels and provides assistance and advice to the Masters as necessary, in order to improve the safe and environmental friendly activities of vessels.

Vessel Visits:

  • Support the development of onboard investigation plan and perform ship visits to identify the compliance of the vessels’ operations with the LPSQ standards and processes.
  • Investigate possible causes of accidents / incidents and develop reports with improvement recommendations on the procedures or working behaviours.
  • Implement the ISM Code and other shipboard audits to vessels.
  • Update PAL Compliance module with NC / Obs identified during ship visits.

LPSQ Reporting

  • Develop reports concerning LPSQ issues and results, and upon approval, submit them to ship owners, BSM clients, and management.

Audits:

  • Coordinate with external maritime authorities, auditors, and / or any other supervisory bodies for the execution of external audits.

Support BSM corporate strategy:

  • Coordinate with Fleet Managers and Superintendents to implement the Performance Appraisals for all Senior Officers of assigned vessels.
  • Coach team with training, development, performance management, and career progression (if applicable).
  • Participate in the development of the department’s budget and supports its accurate execution. Identify cost-saving opportunities, and propose corrective actions in case of deviations, to ensure compliance with set targets.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.Sc. in Marine or Naval Engineering/Master/Senior officer’s certificate
  • 3-6 years and above experience as LPSQ manager or superintendent within a ship management/owning company

Job Specific skills:

  • Knowledge of Quality Standards, environmental and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of Legislation concerning Quality and Safety.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in customer management.
  • Knowledge of the local/regional maritime market conditions.
  • Good people management skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • PC literacy.
