Job Description


Working for Polaris Children’s Service is all about making a positive difference to the personnel within the military community. We are seeking a Social Worker with demonstrable post-qualifying experience. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work within a military environment.  Co-ordinating all aspects of Social Care needs for the military personnel and the entitled support community.

If you are a knowledgeable and experienced social worker with excellent organisational skills, are able to meet deadlines, have excellent communications skills and the ability to assess and analyse situations accurately then this is the ideal role for you.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE: but not exhaustive

  • Undertaking sec 47 enquiries
  • Delivery of Child protection and child in need plans
  • Child Minding pre inspection(training provided)
  • Take part in an out of hour’s rota
  • Develop early intervention programmes and direct work
  • Some weekend work attending fetes where BFSWS have stands
  • Attendance at relevant multi-agency meetings and ability to chair meetings.
  • Adult at risk


  • A Social Work qualification
  • Professional registration with Social Work England/equivalent
  • Proven ability to produce a high standard of report writing
  • Computer literacy skills
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of relevant legislation and child safeguarding procedures/Adults at Risk
  • The willingness and ability to travel extensively (including occasional nights away)
  • Confidence with transporting children and young people in sometimes stressful/difficult situations
  • Ideally some knowledge and understanding of the Military
  • Full driving licence for manual cars
  • This is a full time, permanent position. The hours of work are 37.5 per week
