Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.   The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a professional who will be responsible of implementing computational co-development activities foreseen under the SimEA ERA Chair Project.   The successful candidate will contribute in research activities in the area of data management, and will be responsible for the development of tools and services (Java), including data analytics. The candidate will also undertake the addition and improvement of modules to an existing web-based scalable open source data management system, as well as the modification of the underlying code, as necessary, to meet the functionality required. The selected candidate will contribute to infrastructure that goes beyond digital humanities and is applied to various research disciplines internationally, specifically with , as well as the dissemination of PRACE research infrastructure http://www.prace-ri.eu/ and NI4OS-Europe infrastructure .   The duration of appointment will be of a fixed-term period renewable based on performance, funding availability and project needs of the Institute.       Responsibilities   The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities   Contributing in project related training activities including the development and maintenance of the training portal and related web services. Maintaining a well-functioning web-based scalable data management system. Planning and implementing new modules to a web-based scalable data management system. Adding or improving modules to existing website(s) and modification of the underlying code as necessary, to meet the functionality required. Identify opportunities for the further enrichment and advancement of existing web-based scalable data management system (new user interfaces, new features and functionalities etc.).   Required Qualifications   A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Information Technology, Digital Humanities, Geographic Information System, Engineering or any related field. etc. Experience with creating apps, geoweb and databases, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and relational database design is essential. Experience in data management. Experience in Scala, Docker, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, etc. Excellent knowledge of the English language (written and verbal). Advise the personnel on all procurement requirements and propose effective procedures for their delivery according to policies and strategies. Work with all CyI units to ensure that value for money is maximized, by disseminating best practice, advising on appropriate management of risk and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Give support and training for all those involved in procurement / purchasing. Give information/ advice on existing agreements and guidance on procurement procedures (including legal obligations) and requirements. Assisting all the procurement procedures through implementing all policies and procedures related to procurement activities and ensure guidelines and grant agreement provisions are followed in transactions Maintain a coherent filing system to include procurement preparation and contract management, correspondence, claims, reports, etc. Preparation of tender documents for Open and Simplified procedures Publication of Open/Closed tenders through eProcurement Registration of Simplified tenders to eProcurement platform Maintaining tenders archive (soft and hard copies) Assisting Evaluation Committees members during the evaluation procedure Preparation of contracts, maintaining contracts archive under the supervision of the Head of the Procurement Office. Supporting Tender Committee and TEAA (Divisional Committee for Changes and Claims):arranging their meetings, preparing minutes, sending out relevant invitations and letters etc.   Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in any field Relevant experience in the preparation of tender documents. Good knowledge of the Legislation on Public Procurement. Experience in the use of the eProcurement platform. Excellent written skills in both Greek and English. This position is supported by the EU H2020 project “EMME-CARE” (Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre; TEAMING Grant no. 856612), within which the Cyprus Institute is establishing a “Centre of Excellence” in Climate and Atmosphere research for the EMME region in cooperation with EU Advanced Partners (Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Germany; University of Helsinki in Finland; and CEA in France).   Responsibilities The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities: Assist in the development of small software applications for data acquisition systems. Collaborate with postgraduate students to develop small applications for data acquisition and process of their scientific instruments to be integrated into UASs. Maintain and improve the existing software features developed at USRL and follow-up with the existing coding style. Participate in scheduled Test Flights for the purpose of the development and optimization of the platforms and the avionic/navigation systems. Participate in field deployment and demonstrations of UAVs (including research campaigns in Cyprus and abroad). Remain updated on UAS software and associated technology and make appropriate recommendations to the team leader. Ensure compliance with service guidance, Institute’s policy and procedures and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. Required Qualifications Bachelor Degree in one of the following: Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ Software Engineering To have a good understanding of Object Oriented programming. Good knowledge of C/C++, Java. Good knowledge of mySQL (mariaDB). Knowledge of Linux (UNIX) operating system. Basic knowledge of Python programming language. Basic knowledge of web technologies and JavaScript. Excellent knowledge of English both oral and written. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications MSc in a related subject will be considered as an additional advantage Experience in Arduino programming. Experience in electronic circuits. Experience with Raspberry pi.
